Money & Donations


The focus of our group is upon creating positive and sustainable community change. The organising group is dedicated to this change and gains deep reward from seeing this come to being within our community. However, in order to create something that becomes an embedded part of a healthy and vibrant community, we realise that we also need support in the form of financial contributions.

We are a local group of ordinary people who all volunteer our time to ensure this happens. We have witnessed many times the life changing power of our Rites of Passage event and believe in the value of ensuring the long term sustainability of these events. It is our intention to keep our event as accessible to anyone who feels a strong commitment to participate, and to never turn anyone away for lack of funds or resources. As such we operate on a donation based system to reflect this position.

At the completion of the event we ask participants to reflect what they thought the event was worth to them in terms of a personal experience and the greater social and community value, and from that position to then make a donation to reflect both that value as well as their own financial situation.

We do, however, require a non-refundable payment of $120 to secure a place on the event. This allows us to raise the funds to purchase some of the food, yet this only goes part way in covering all the expenses we incur in running the event. (Note: the break-even cost is approximately $300 pp)
